Who Am I?
I’m a nurse advocate and… a work in progress.
All things considered, I am a work in progress. I believe there is always room for improvement while still accepting who I am today. Which is a significant improvement of who I used to be. I am improving every day, despite the setbacks from the horrors of life’s trials and tribulations.
I believe with my whole being that laughter heals. When I’ve had a bad day, I put on shows or movies which make me laugh out loud. Some of my favorites are: Noises Off, Friends, or Leanne Morgan: I’m Every Woman. I heard a story once of a man who was diagnosed with a terminal illness who healed by watching the show Green Acres and laughing endlessly. Now, I don’t know how true the story is, but I absolutely believe laughter heals.
When I think about who I am, a litany of descriptive nouns flash in my mind. I am a nurse, an author, an artist, a speaker, a swimmer, a kayaker, a country and city girl, a reader…etcetera ad nauseam. If I had to simplify, I would say I am a child of God who loves to laugh and help others.
I have had different careers in my life. I began working in elementary school as we were poor and working was the only way I could have money to buy candy or go skating. Those were the important things back then. I received my girl scout’s badges in first-aid and babysitting, then advertised my services as a babysitter to my neighbors with younger kids.
I moved on to waitressing in high school and then into retail. I worked as a substitute teacher for a year and let me just say, “Thank You!” to every teacher on this planet. Teaching kids is not as easy as it looks!
My first degree was Radio/TV/Film from a small college in the greater Los Angeles area. I interned at Marty Katz Productions where I was able to convince Marty to do the budget for The Lord of the Rings movie.
Then, I became a registered nurse and my life changed drastically. I went through a bitter divorce, got lost in the murky waters of my own making, and found myself. Which leads me to where I am today.
I am a Registered Nurse, and it’s a good thing! See below for my nursing history and my blog “Nursing Niche".
Sincerely,
Crista B. Pierce
